parts from creative have arrived

Yesterday at work I had a call from a delivery company -
"are you at home now?" he had some parcels for me... sounds like the parts from t2d had arrived?
 - it was about half an hour after I had left for work, "no I said, im at work, just got here" I said, "im at Arlanda.." "ah" he said, "I have to take the delivery van back to Arlanda when I leave Bålsta around 4pm"
"cool" i said, "then bring them here", and so he did and it worked like a charm ; )

I was suprised to see it was parts from creative engineering ? cool - so just the parts from t2d to get here.

I loaded the well wrapped boxes into the back of the golf after work and drove home.

This morning I took the goods to the garage and unwrapped to see what was what and what was missing.

Here im checking the rear rubber window seal fits me glass (it is the correct size)

And I tried to put the puzzle of what rubber went where - labeling and checking it all out as I went.

Safaris look good, everything seems to be there, the ss logo is very good, not really awsome but very good.
The door frames look nice, i noticed when comparing them with my og´s that a little prep before paint is needed on an area to make them perfect.

The seals where as anticipated a bit wrong, and I only got one corner window rubber?
Have to email them and check this out, also I got rubbers for bullet indicators and the rubbers for the small round rear lights dont look correct.

and a few unidentified rubbers to look into.

Other then that the parts look good, im still to un-wrap the sill side deluxe trim, that is for tonight after work.
Got to get some of these parts over to peka now - hopefully in the morning tomorrow.

Chasing parts today

Last night I fired an email of to Paul at T2D - explained the missing parts and bad drive shafts threads.

He replied late the same evening - with apologies for the hassle and a promise to send the missing parts by the end of the week.

This morning I sent an email to creative engineering - wondering what the status is of the parts I ordered 3 weeks ago - I had a reply within two hours telling me they would be shipped tomorrow.

Other then that today is a day off

I'm not going to the garage

I'm not reading any vw technical books

And I'm not going on the internet to get lost in a volksworld

But I might take my 62 for a blast around the Nuremberg ring : )

The good, the bad and the ugly

Loads been happening since the last post
Lets starts with the good!

Lovely sealing wax paint by Peka

Here is the main man himself - that tip dolly has made all the difference - I will be hiring it out after ive finished with it - so if your in mid Sweden and want to do a good job of the underside of your car then drop me a line and rent the tip girl for a few weeks.

 Doors are amazing !

So if there is GOOD, there has to be some BAD and some UGLY - here is the bad part of this week,
I went to go see how the bus in the woods was - and it was .... gone !

so that was bad, ugly is coming, read on

After getting the Gearbox on the bench and removing the drive shafts I realised it wasnt going to be a case of slinging it in the bus and find out how it goes - no it would need looking into, I read up as much as I could and as I couldn't pull the selectors I started looking into my options,  I spoke with my good friend Nicko and he pointed me in the direction of Hans, a phone call to him the next day left me feeling much better, he said i should bring it over, so on Sunday "after a wasted walk in the woods" I was behind the wheel of the Golf and making my way down the "55" with the box in the boot, a smell of gearbox oil to keep me company - soon I was in Södertälje.

Love driving down the 55 -
After a bit of "getting lost" I found Hans and his work shop - very cool place - Here is the man himself with my AO gearbox - after a chat we decided on a new nose cone, hd side plate, some other small mods, a strip clean and a freshen up.

His drag car, my gearbox and whats that on the floor ? schwimmer wagen gear box!

 MONDAY is delivery day !

I got home from work to find this little item had arrived in the post - its a cool old dealer key ring fob from VW Stockholm, its very similar to the old one I had for Fry (super OG 1968 bay)

And at last the big stuff arrived from T2D ! well nearly all of it....

Beam looks the business

Lots of parts - csp disks brakes for the front, new rear drums, backing plates, wheel cylinders,  tie rods,  ends, slam shocks, drive shafts etc etc
Below you see old shafts against the new - slightly longer by about 25mm - hope that enough ?
and we come to the ugly..... threads on the drive shafts from t2d look like crap - cant even get a nut on one of them - emailed paul about this and the fact that I dont have the adjustable spring plates or master cylinder that should have come.
back to the good stuff that has arrived - csp calipers
 the disks and hub
 fitting kit
 new shoes
 fitting kit
 backing plate and wheel cylinders
 modified hand brake cables
 dropped (flipped) early straight spindles
 Brand new rear brake hubs
After checking the parts and emailing t2d I had just enough time to race the boys at  GT5 before putting them to bed - I chose the samba of course.

So now we are waiting for the remaining parts from t2d and the deluxe stuff from creative engineering.

Gear box on the bench and under side painted at Peka´s

The focus just now is on the gearbox and this is because hopefully very soon all those expensive parts for the front and rear suspension will turn up....

Then as soon as we can get the bus back on its wheels we can get it rolling into the spray booth for the body paint.

So here is the type 3 Gearbox on the bench - stripping of the hubs.

First job is to remove the old short axles and tubes in preparation for the new stuff from t2d also then the box will be easier to manage and look into finding out why I cant select gears at the moment.

The axle tubes were pretty easy to remove once I had the long puller. The biggest issue I came into was trying to remove the cir-clips that holds the axle in to the box - many attempts and a few detours on the way home from work to try and find the tool that I needed, now I have the correct size cir-clip pliers and tonight I shall try to get these bastards out.

Its always good to read a bit from John muir´s book

The garage - late night lock in

Popped into peka´s the other day to see about the rear bumper, I needed to check that the rear bumper irons that arrived from auto craft would fit - they looked good. The bus was in the after paint room  - He had painted the under side - looking so good!

catch you on the flip side

Bumper to bumper

Yesterday it was Wednesday aka my turn to get the post........

Monday and Friday is Travis's turn, Lewis takes Tuesday and Thursday, they hop out of the car to see if we have any mail in our post box, the bonus for the boys is they get to ride up front, down the short gravel road to our home.

This is our new routine - in a effort to stop the fighting about who should get the mail, in the back of the car on the way home from dagis... nearly every day  : )

So what did I find in the post late on Ash Wednesday night
I wasnt expecting anything

TNT!

" Que ACDC "

no not explosives! but the delivery company kind of TNT

of course like always they had tried to deliver during the day?
when your least likely to be at home- I dont get it?
They had at least left a note to tell me this, so now i have to chase my parcel, a job for the morning.

so next morning -

on My way to Work spotted this .... Bertil ?

I took the slip with me so I could re-arrange delivery - I did that this morning while getting changed into my whites and entering the kitchen. As I hoped, the package was at "posten" Enkoping, where I had to go to pick up the boys after work today
so I told them I would pick it up, I'm familiar with the open times and set up - ok if it's a mall part - at the moment I'm waiting for big and small parts....

I'd also arranged to meet kent after work and go check out a blasting cabinet which he had found almost as soon as I told him that I was thinking about getting one.

Work....." whole separate blog just on that part of life"

Out early : ) and on it

Headed to Bromma to meet kent, on to the E4, Today was traffic - that very rarely happens to me now I live here in Sweden, very spoilt here, often I can drive home with a clear road to my self but I do remember how much sitting in traffic sucks - m25 m6 a14 Dart ford crossing - to name a few that I regularly still listen to jamming up in the uk via radio 2 bbc app in the car.

- anyway.... I could see I was going no where fast and instead called kent to say that I wouldn't make it in time and I didn't want to have this guy who's selling the sand blaster waiting around for me to turn up - so Instead I asked kent to tell him I'd take it, then we could get on with the issue of picking it up - so I turned out of the motorway ( again lucky with a slip road right there - the next one was at the jam ( google earthed it ; ) and headed my way back to my usual daily route back home and then on to Enkoping - it was still slow moving along this usually clear section of country roads, that's stop signs for you! Loads of these in Sweden.
Many motorist had decided to detour via the jam - during the crawl I deviated to swedish radio and found out there had been a bad accident with a lorry and a lot of diesel spilled, which had blocked the road (e4) for the whole day and evening ! Ouch !

After all that crawling it was nice to be back on the quite (old) roads, and soon ive swept past the viken and I'm back in Enköping.

I pick up the package - and judging From the size realize it's the bumper bracket I ordered from auto craft and the 3rd brake light lens.
The bracket, is it the same as the one I have ?
I open it when I get to Lena's.
No, it's quite clearly much bigger then the one I have and a completely different shape. The new one is much better suited for ribbed bumpers then the one I got from Dick? - it's obvious when you see them- I double checked against lelles samba - the one I have is the same - so from a later splitscreen.
No big deal - just means I need to order the right one now with some rear shock mounts but ....
Before checking the inside of my rear bumpers ,,, have they been modified?

ribbed on the left - later splitscreen bus to the right

Saturday morning it is then.

still waiting for the suspension from t3d, should be soon

- in the meantime I have plenty to keep busy with

bored yet?

safari´s n stuff

Safari windows from creative engineering have been ordered : )
along with a whole bunch of other nice parts, more about this when they show up.

Needed to buy these now as we must fit them up, drill and install the hinges and frames, and a little welding before paint,  how to ? - see here
then get the frames painted chestnut brown.
They come with new glass, inner and outer seals, disengages, slides and catches.

These are really nice - just like the original factory safari window disengaging wiper spindles, one of those areas to address in the future, Creatives answer will be just fine for now.

These parts are also on route from Autocrafteng a lovely "3rd brake light lens" and a left hand bumper iron.

So got up early on Saturday and headed down to Peka´s garage.
Things are always going forward - which is real nice to see.
This time its the autocraft sheet metal "rear engine bay valence" and the fresh air vent, now straight and all holes welded and smoothed out, primered. He had also started addressing areas on the under side in preperation for paint, I dropped off some nos jacking points and showed him where to fix them, they will need a little tweaking but should go in easy.
He also got some rear hinges for the engine lid, so now we can bolt that up in situ and see what we have.
This pic is to remind me that I must get a hinge mirror arm for this door.

I removed the rear torsion tubes and spring plates, very nice to get rid of those notched plates, while doing this job I inspected the torsion housing tube, found a lot of sand in there, will be cleaning and blowing out the whole bus soon. what I can say is that tilting the body makes life working on the bus very easy.  here is the torsion bar separating from the spring plate.

Had a little break and Peka showed us his rides - he has a fully renovated Austin A30 very nice.

                                                         and his airbrushed Goldwing
Peka working on kents 2 ltr type 4 motor

Kent getting his tins ready for paint
Back to the 55 - Thinking about having a small shelf up here for shades n stuff
Soon we will be fitting the safari, Need to fix the radio blanking plate and get the thin lip shelf blasted and prepped for paint.

Wheels will be painted same as top half chestnut brown, i think...

These original notched spring plates have now been removed, adjustables from typ2 detectives are on there way - hope they arrive this week.
After a couple of hours at pekas I headed home to help lelle remove the engine on his 21.
Didnt take to long, it was cold (2deg plus) and of course he had just filled the tank when the engine went pop, so a lot of fuel had to be drained, nice wiff of petrol in the air.

After lelle left with the engine in the back of his daily, I went about my own buisness, another tidy up and then i removed the dropped spindles form the beam -
just about then Tomas popped by with his new best friend Rocky  - so I had someone to chat to while I cleaned up a few parts.

Rocky is lovely - one day we will have a little dog, just not yet.

Lelle´s bus on dolly's and pushed up against the wall out of the way.

                                                                  organized chaos
Made a quick smoothie - frozen strawbs, bananas, milk and berrie cordial.
Kent came by this Sunday with some parts he wanted to try blasting, actually the compressor was slow and blasting wasnt so good today, I think the old girl is giving up, might need a faster compressor and a little blasting cabinet.
Any way we removed a bit with sand and tried soda too, got some results and it did clean them up.
Kent with his Bible in hand (haynes manuel for typ2 baywindows)
next to his Golf, suz Passat and my Golf - VW parking.

This week Im expecting a lot of parts to arrive from the UK  - still waiting for front and rear end suspension parts from T2D,
Soem deluxe goodies from Creative engineering and a couple of bits from Autocraft.
Have to order rear jacking point and louvre trims this week too.
Next Saturday will see some garage time at pekas.
in the mean time id like to find a deal on a new compressor and a small blast cabinet...

Dont forget bus selecta !
