October 11th - 12th "some time in the garage"

Saturday I took Travis to a party in Vasterås "turbo town" and so had a couple of hours to kill while he jumped around leos lek land. So I headed over to biltema and pick up some garage surplies.
It was really nice to be able to take a long time in the store.
I ended up coming away with 2 new airtools, a die grinder and an air drill, a whole polishing kit, a new sump oil drain pan, a new lead lamp, plenty of new small quick release grinding pads (as seen at peka´s garage) I picked up some new sound proofing to test on the bus wheel wells and a few other odds and sods .

Lelle called when I was walking around and said he was out and about in his samba running in th enew engine and he had almost covered the running in mileage but was concerned about a couple of noises, so I told him where I was and he headed down the E18 to find me.

 Taking a test drive.
Seemed good to me, some noise from the exhaust rubbing on the bumper. Oil change arranged for the next day when we meet for a book meeting.
Back home after the party and I set about a good tidy up of tools in the garage, Turned my two rolling benches into better stations.

Sunday
Lelles bus came in just as I had finished making the place fit again, Got the back jacked up and the tow bar mount removed and was soon letting the oil drain.

After a few hours, a change of gaskets and new oil it was good to go again.
Gone and the garage space back again, time to get on with the 55
After messing with the polishing equipment for a while I got back to the job that was most needed to be finished. The removal of material on the spindles to allow the disk to rotate freely, new tool was perfect and I could remove a little and then replace the hub, did this many times, still not quite there yet !

praying to the garage god : )

Building up the rear hubs, bearings and brakes

This is how I installed the rear hub, dry run.
No longer need these two spacer bearings that were on the old rear "short axle" set up.

installed the greased bearing

offered up the backing plate

laid the paper gasket in position, I will use gasket sealant all over this on the final go.

fitted large o ring

here is the large o ring in position and spacer pushed on for trial fit

parts and tools

flat washer next

then small o ring

spacer with con-caved end towards o ring

seal in carrier, greased

pushed home

fit carrier and bolt down

another washer

fitting hub to see how things are

build up the brake shoes
This is a dry run to check clearances and allow the bus to be moved into the paint booth and on to a trailer. soon its coming home, where it will be stripped down again before the final fitting.
